New Alchemy Institute did a lot of original work 1970-1990 or so with what they called bioshelters - fish and veg. They even had a state diagram for aquaculture chemical flows. More http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Alchemy_Institute and http://www.thegreencenter.net/pubonline.html (they use frames so you may have to noodle around a bit). Best, Mike
