The USDA has started a new series of reports on Micropolitan areas (above) link at http://www.ers.usda.gov/Briefing/Rurality/MicropolitanAreas/ and also analysis reflecting the influence of Urban areas, notable "no town no center" for the SE corner of the bootheel, for example.
